Poland Launches Second State-Owned Online Casino

Poland’s national operator, which already runs the Total Casino brand, is preparing to get a new iGaming platform underway — Spinky.pl. 

As the Ministry of Finance supervises gambling policy and licensing, the National Revenue Administration (KAS) handles compliance and enforcement.

Spinky’s primary objective is to steer players away from unlicensed websites and into the regulated market. 

It’s Not Just Total Casino Anymore

Operating on Playtech’s platform, Total Casino has been Poland’s only officially licensed online casino for 8 years. Its launch would give Totalizator Sportowy another flagship brand, making Spinky a notable development for the state-owned iGaming dominance.

Spinky is presently undergoing limited testing with selected users. The new casino will run on a platform developed in-house by Totalizator Sportowy. Its launch could put Poland’s gambling monopoly to the test, with unauthorised operators accounting for a third of the country’s online casino market.

If the new platform fails to lure players away from offshore sites, critics of the current system may seize on the results as an argument for opening the market to multiple licensed operators. 

However, if Spinky proves popular, Poland’s two-casino model could become even harder to challenge. Players will get another legal brand to choose from, but private online casinos will continue to be shut out of the market.

Polish Casino Market Is Still a Closed Shop

As part of its crackdown on illegal gambling, Poland’s most popular payment provider, BLIK, will ban transfers to addresses associated with unlicensed websites from September 1. The Finance Ministry’s embargo currently spans more than 50,000 rogue websites.
