Demand Remains Strong Despite New Restrictions

Sweepstakes casinos have expanded rapidly across the United States since 2020. According to Blask, demand for the segment increased 128 times during that period. As of May 2026, sweepstakes casinos accounted for 23.5% of total measured iGaming demand. Interest in the segment exceeded demand for traditional online casinos and prediction markets.

In several states, sweepstakes casinos held an even stronger position. Alabama, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Utah, and Wyoming recorded particularly high demand levels.

More States Move to Restrict Sweepstakes Casinos

Several US states have already acted against sweepstakes casinos. New Jersey introduced the first explicit ban in August 2025. Other states followed over the following months.

Indiana will introduce its ban on 1 July 2026 — becoming the seventh state with an explicit prohibition. During May, Indiana ranked among the states where sweepstakes demand remained especially strong.

Meanwhile, Iowa is taking a different path. New rules will give regulators greater authority to target illegal gambling operations and sweepstakes casinos. Additional restrictions are also approaching elsewhere. Maine plans to introduce its ban later in July, while Oklahoma's law takes effect in November.

No Brand Holds a Dominant Position

Although sweepstakes casinos remain popular, market leadership appears increasingly fragmented. Blask data shows no single brand controls more than half of any state's sweepstakes demand. That situation highlights how competitive the sector has become.

Market Leaders Vary Across States

The leading brands in May 2026 included:

  • Chumba Casino

  • Crown Coins

  • Lucky Rush

  • Funzpoints

  • Stake

Chumba Casino remained the largest brand nationwide and led in 27 states. However, its share of overall demand declined compared with the previous year. At the same time, several rivals gained ground. Different leaders emerged across multiple states, creating a much more competitive environment.

Competition Grows as the Industry Faces a Test

The market now faces two powerful forces — rising regulation and stronger competition. A year ago, some brands dominated individual states. That picture has changed. Today, user attention spreads across a wider group of operators. Nevertheless, demand remains close to record levels. Many users continue choosing sweepstakes casinos despite increasing legal uncertainty.

Hence, the coming months may prove important for the industry. More state bans could reduce access in key markets. At the same time, competition remains fierce among operators seeking to retain users.

The result is a market entering a new phase. Demand remains strong, but the rules are changing — and no clear winner has emerged.
