Evoke Buys Leading Romanian iGaming Operator Winner.ro
Evoke PLC is set to strengthen its position in Eastern Europe with the acquisition of New Gambling Solutions SRL, the company behind Winner.ro, marking a major move into Romania’s rapidly expanding online betting market.
Evoke PLC has announced its plans to acquire New Gambling Solutions SRL, the company behind Winner.ro, a leading online betting and gaming platform in Romania. This marks a major step for Evoke, which already owns global brands such as William Hill, 888, and Mr Green.
Key Details of the Deal
The acquisition merges Evoke’s 888.ro operations with Winner.ro, creating one of Romania’s largest online betting presences.
Evoke aims to become the fourth-largest operator in Romania with a 7% combined market share.
The company will invest €10 million (US$11.16 million) for a 51% stake, with an option to increase ownership to 100% after three years, based on 2026 performance metrics.
Romanian Market Outlook
Romania’s online betting market is expected to grow at a 13% compound annual rate from 2023–2026.
The market could generate €1.1 billion (US$1.23 billion) in net revenue for 2023.
Strict regulations and strong localization needs create high entry barriers, making this acquisition strategically timed.
Strategic and Financial Implications
The acquisition is expected to close in Q3 2024.
Evoke anticipates a positive earnings impact in 2025 without affecting its 2024 financial guidance.
Winner.ro CEO Nicklas Zajdel praised the deal, highlighting the combined entity’s localized expertise, strong leadership, and advanced product platform.
Following the announcement, Evoke’s shares rose 3%, reflecting investor confidence. The acquisition strengthens Evoke’s foothold in Europe and positions it as a major player in Romania’s rapidly expanding iGaming market.
