Gambling Commission Asks Industry to Identify Regulatory Burdens
The UK Gambling Commission has started a new review of gambling rules. It wants gambling businesses to suggest simpler rules that reduce extra work while keeping strong protection for players. The review will stay open until September.

Commission Asks Businesses for Ideas
The UK Gambling Commission has asked gambling businesses to suggest rules that could become easier to follow. The regulator wants ideas that reduce extra work without lowering player protection. The review opened on 26 June and will run until 25 September. After that, the Commission will study the feedback before deciding its next steps.
This review is different from a normal consultation — businesses must suggest changes instead of commenting on plans from the regulator. Each idea must include evidence showing why the current rule creates unnecessary work. The Commission said it wants to cut extra compliance work while keeping gambling fair and safe.
What Rules Could Change?
The review covers many parts of the current gambling rules. Businesses can suggest changes if they still support the current licensing goals. The review includes:
Licence conditions
Codes of practice
Guidance
Reporting rules
Regulatory processes
Some Rules Will Not Be Reviewed
The Commission also explained what this review will not cover. It is not reopening wider gambling policy or recent rule changes.
Nevertheless, some recent rules could still be reviewed in special cases. Businesses must show strong evidence that those rules created unexpected problems for operators or players. The regulator also said ongoing consultations will continue as planned. Those topics will stay outside this review.
Industry Meeting Set for July
The Commission will discuss the review during its Operators Engagement Forum on 2 July. The meeting should help businesses prepare their ideas before the deadline.
Tim Miller, the Commission's executive director for research and policy, said the regulator wants practical ideas that improve rules without reducing player protection. He added that better rules could support business growth — while keeping gambling fair and safe.
Betting and Gaming Council Supports the Review
The Betting and Gaming Council welcomed the Commission's decision. The trade group said its members already work under some of the world's strictest gambling rules. Beyond that, the council said its members spend heavily on compliance, safer gambling, and player protection. It also said it looks forward to working with the Commission during the review.
The next few months could show where businesses want changes. Hence, the Commission now faces a careful task — reducing extra work while keeping strong protection for players.
