Stake hacked — hackers gained access to players’ personal data

Stake has confirmed a data leak involving player information after a security incident at a third-party analytics provider. While account access and funds were not affected, some user details were exposed.

Reports have emerged that the iGaming platform Stake was affected by a data breach. The first public mention of the incident came from iGaming expert STRIJ, who shared details about a leak involving player information.

According to information later confirmed by Stake, attackers gained access to certain user data through a third-party analytics provider. The exposed details include usernames, email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. No passwords or financial data were compromised.

Official Statement from Stake

Stake explained that the incident did not occur within its own infrastructure. The breach happened at Mixpanel, a third-party analytics service used by Stake and many other companies. Mixpanel does not have access to Stake’s core systems, wallets, or security mechanisms.

The attack was carried out via SMS phishing (also known as smishing), which allowed unauthorized access to Mixpanel’s systems. Before the issue was fully contained, the attacker managed to export files that included limited profile data related to some Stake users.

Stake confirmed that:

  • Its platform and internal systems were not breached

  • User passwords and funds remain safe

  • The incident has been fully contained by Mixpanel

  • Mixpanel is cooperating with law enforcement

  • Stake also stated that online monitoring services are being used to detect any further misuse of the leaked information.

Recommendations for Users

Stake told players to be careful, as phishing and fake messages may appear. The company suggests turning on passkeys or two-factor authentication, being cautious with any emails or messages that mention Stake, and keeping devices updated. Stake also said it will never ask for passwords or security codes.

Commenting on the situation, STRIJ confirmed that while accounts and balances remain secure, leaked contact details may lead to an increase in spam and phishing attempts. Players should be especially careful over the coming weeks.

What Is Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is a product analytics platform widely used in the iGaming industry. It tracks player behavior through an event-based model, allowing operators to analyze the full player journey — from registration and KYC to deposits, gameplay, and retention.

Unlike traditional web analytics tools, Mixpanel focuses on real-time user actions. iGaming operators use it for deep player segmentation, funnel analysis, churn tracking, A/B testing, and optimizing bonuses, UX flows, and payment processes. Its role is analytical only, which is why the breach did not affect Stake’s financial or authentication systems.
