Big Fine Shakes Company

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) recently fined Novatech Solutions — Qbet’s parent company — nearly €25 million. The fine was for offering online gambling to users in the Netherlands without a license. The news drew attention in Curaçao, where Novatech Solutions was registered.

The day after the fine was announced, the company deregistered from the Curaçao Chamber of Commerce. Despite this, Qbet still shows a Curaçao license on its website.

Expert Notices Change

Gambling expert João Mar spotted the deregistration after reading about the fine. He noted that Novatech Solutions was managed by a trust firm called Downtown E-commerce Company (DECC). The firm has managed other online casinos, including Santeda International BV, which runs MyStake.

It is unclear where Novatech Solutions will move next. Possible options include Anjouan or Belize, but no new licenses have appeared yet.

Similar Cases in the Past

Qbet is not the first operator to leave Curaçao after Dutch sanctions. In 2024, the Casbit Group — operator of Lalabet — deregistered following a penalty from the KSA.

  • In 2024, the Casbit Group, operator of Lalabet, left Curaçao after a KSA penalty.

  • Lalabet moved to Costa Rica and later became Chachabet.

  • The casino is still active and serves Dutch users.

This pattern highlights a common response from offshore online casinos when facing European regulatory pressure.

What Happens Next

Qbet still links to its Curaçao license on its website, even though the parent company has left. Observers are now watching closely to see where the company will operate next. Large fines and strict rules may shape its future decisions.

The case highlights the ongoing clash between offshore online casinos and European regulators — and how companies respond quickly to avoid penalties.
