Romanian Gambling Regulator (ONJN) Updates List of Blocked Domains

Romania has expanded its blacklist of gambling-related domains, with the National Office for Gambling (ONJN) adding another 37 addresses to the register.

The latest update brings the total number of blocked domains on the Romanian regulator’s list to 2,818. The new additions include a large group of websites linked to several casino brands, while a smaller number of domains were found to be using the names of established Romanian brands.

This is the latest expansion of the blacklist following ONJN’s previous efforts to restrict access to gambling websites that are not authorised to operate in the Romanian market.

Hit'n'Spin, NV Casino and Lucky Wave account for most new domains

Three casino brands make up the vast majority of the newly added addresses. The largest group consists of 18 domains associated with Hit'n'Spin. Another eight addresses belong to NV Casino, while six domains are connected with Lucky Wave.

Together, these three groups account for 32 of the 37 newly blocked domains. That means only five other addresses were added in the latest update. The concentration of new entries around a small number of brands stands out in the latest ONJN list. Rather than being spread evenly across dozens of operators, most of the newly identified domains are connected with just three casino names.

Four more domains used local brand names

The remaining additions include four websites that used the names Zinx and Magic Jackpot. According to the latest list, these domains were branded using the names of well-known local brands. Their inclusion shows that ONJN’s blacklist is not limited to direct copies of casino websites or domains clearly associated with established gambling brands.

The regulator continues to update the list as new domains are identified and added to its blocking measures.

ONJN continues to expand its blacklist

The latest update follows an earlier major expansion of Romania’s blacklist. The continued updates show that ONJN is maintaining an active approach to identifying websites that should be restricted for Romanian users.

The latest additions are relatively small compared with some of ONJN’s earlier updates, but the number of domains already present on the list shows the scale of the regulator’s ongoing work. As new addresses appear and existing websites change domains, further updates to the blacklist can be expected.
