The launch of Alberta's regulated iGaming market on 13 July 2026 has quickly become one of the industry's biggest stories in North America.

Long before the official opening, dozens of companies had already expressed interest in joining the province. Approximately 32 operators submitted licence applications, and 28 had received approval before the market went live. The list has continued to expand ever since as regulators keep announcing additional approvals.

Some of the industry's largest names have already committed to Alberta. We recently reported on FanDuel's arrival, and new announcements continue to appear as more licensed companies prepare to launch their products.

Tonybet Secures Another Canadian Licence

Tonybet has now become one of the latest operators authorised to enter Alberta after obtaining an iGaming licence from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC).

The approval builds on the company's existing presence in Ontario and Kahnawake, giving Tonybet access to another regulated Canadian jurisdiction.

For the operator, Alberta represents more than just another licence. With a population close to five million people and an established gaming audience, the province is expected to become one of Canada's most important regulated markets over the coming years.

Work Begins Before the Official Launch

Receiving regulatory approval is only one part of the process. Tonybet is now completing the final steps required before welcoming players in Alberta. These include adapting the casino to local requirements, connecting to the province's central self-exclusion programme, and completing onboarding procedures with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC).

The operator also plans to introduce customer support tailored to local users together with responsible gaming features designed to meet Alberta's regulatory requirements.

Ontario Experience Will Be Used in Alberta

Chief Executive Officer Dmitry Arabuli believes Alberta's regulatory model creates the right conditions for long-term development.

He pointed to Tonybet's performance in Ontario, where both player registrations and gross gaming revenue increased by 52% throughout 2025. According to Arabuli, maintaining strict compliance standards while expanding the business has been central to the company's strategy, and Alberta will follow the same approach.

Regulated Markets Remain the Company's Priority

Tonybet was established in 2009 and operates from its headquarters in Riga. Over the years, the company has expanded into several regulated jurisdictions, including Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Latvia, Estonia, and Canada. Alberta now becomes another milestone in that international growth, reflecting the continuing expansion of regulated online gaming across Canada.
