U.S. Gaming Revenue Hits Record $78.6B in 2025
The U.S. gaming industry set a new record in 2025. Strong growth came from online betting and casino play. Still, concerns about illegal casinos and prediction markets continue to grow for regulators.

Gaming Revenue Rises Across Most States
The U.S. commercial gaming industry made $78.6 billion in 2025. That is up 9.1% from last year. According to the American Gaming Association, this is the sixth straight year of growth. Most regulated markets across the country saw higher revenue.
Thirty-four states and Washington, D.C., reported record yearly results. There was a small decrease in only one market. Tax receipts increased to $17.86 billion as well. This is 12.3% higher than the previous year.
But industry leaders reported that demand remained robust despite the economy. Others even stated that illegal casinos are still competing with legal casinos. Legal gaming maintains strong demand, Bill Miller, head of the AGA said. He cited consistent expansion in many states.
Nevada Keeps the Lead in Gaming
Nevada stayed the top gaming state in 2025. It brought in about $15.8 billion in revenue. Other major markets followed:
New Jersey
New York
Michigan
Smaller states also grew fast in 2025. Strong gains were registered in Nebraska, Montana and Washington, D.C. The Las Vegas Strip stayed the biggest casino area. It made about $8.6 billion. Atlantic City was second with approximately $2.9 billion.
Overall, land-based casinos still won the most money. They made $51.06 billion at 493 facilities. Most casino revenue came from slot machines and other games. Table games also remained unchanged.
Sports Betting and Online Casinos Grow Fast
Sports betting has been a rapidly expanding industry in 2025. Revenue rose 22.6% to $16.89 billion. The total revenue from sports betting in New York was over $2.5 billion. The majority of the wagers were placed online.
Online casinos also boasted a strong performance. The revenue of iGaming grew by 27.6% to $10.73 billion. Pennsylvania was the top performer in this area with $3.46 billion. It also outpaced online revenue for the land-based casinos.
AGA Warns About Illegal Gambling Risks
Regulators also focused on illegal casinos in 2025. The AGA said they still cause major harm. Illegal gambling may bring in $53.9 billion each year. States may lose over $15 billion in taxes.
Prediction markets also became a concern. Authorities in 16 states acted against them in 2025. Some states banned sweepstakes-style casino sites. These included California, New Jersey, and New York.
Bill Miller said these markets may weaken legal rules. He said they also reduce tax income and player protection.
