West Virginia Posts Massive 41.6% Increase In February iGaming Revenue
West Virginia’s online casinos reported strong results for February, with revenue rising sharply compared to last year. The state earned $37.1 million from iGaming, down slightly from January due to fewer days, yet the year-on-year growth was impressive.

February Revenue and Growth
The $37.1 million in revenue represents a 41.6% increase over February 2025 — continuing a trend of strong early-year gains. January had also recorded nearly 40% growth compared to 2025, signaling a powerful start for 2026.
Despite falling 11% from January, the decline appears linked to February having three fewer days than the previous month — not weaker player activity.
Expansion of FanDuel
Industry observers note that FanDuel’s partnership with Mardi Gras Casino & Resort contributed to the revenue surge.

Jonathan Edson, FanDuel’s SVP of Business Development, said the partnership with Delaware North strengthens the company’s presence in West Virginia.
Potential Tax Changes
The revenue increase has sparked debate among lawmakers, who are reviewing two House Bills — HB 4397 and HB 4398. These proposals aim to raise iGaming and sportsbook taxes from 10% and 15% to a flat 25% rate.
Experts caution that higher taxes may reduce activity. Similar changes in other markets caused declines — for instance, Dutch operators reported a €43.5 million fall after increasing tax rates last year. Analysts warn West Virginia could face similar risks if players seek better value elsewhere.
Current iGaming Landscape
Online gaming in West Virginia is regulated, and enacted in 2019 under HB 2934. The legislation allows five onshore casinos to seek online licenses, each of which is authorized to have up to three online casinos, which would result in a possible total of 15 locations.
Currently, fewer than ten online casinos operate in the state. Key brands include:
DraftKings
FanDuel
BetMGM
Caesars Online
Golden Nugget
Neighboring Virginia has seen slower progress. The state recently postponed a decision on HB 271, delaying potential online casino expansion. West Virginia’s iGaming sector appears strong, yet the tax debate and regional regulatory moves could shape future growth. The February numbers suggest continued interest from players — but lawmakers’ decisions may test whether the momentum can last throughout 2026.
