Candy Bonanza is one of the brightest and most funny cluster slots from PG Soft. Few even modern slots are capable of maintaining a fast pace throughout the entire game without exception. This is a dynamic candy-themed game that, as of 2021, has not yet become boring. It is built entirely around cascades, multipliers, and symbol transformations. Like many other PG Soft games, it is based on very simple mechanics and features. In short, it has everything that modern players love, despite the fact that the game has been around for several years.

Unlike traditional reels, Candy Bonanza uses a 6×6 grid with cluster wins. Wins are formed when 4+ identical symbols touch horizontally or vertically. Winning symbols explode, new ones cascade down, and this process can be repeated indefinitely.

This structure keeps the gameplay constantly active, which is why it is now more relevant than paylines. Even a single spin can turn into a long sequence of cascades. And that's mostly what happens. But I'll talk about that in the section of my testing.

These Wilds appear after winnings are paid out, so they are inserted into the next cascade, which significantly increases the probability of subsequent wins.

The main feature is the Big Candy feature. The 2×2 Big symbol appears when 4 identical symbols land in a square. Any win that includes this Big Candy is doubled.

PG Soft sticks to its usual design philosophy here — not overloading the game with gimmicks, but instead creating harmony between 3 core mechanics.

1. Multiplier Feature — starts at x1 in the base game. Every cascade win boosts the multiplier by +1. Resets between spins.

2. Wild Symbol Feature — clusters of 6/7/8+ symbols award 1/2/3 Wilds respectively. Wilds appear after wins are paid, ready for the next cascade. In Free Spins, unused Wilds stay on the grid until used. This feature is extremely strong, especially if Wilds fall in central positions. 

3. Big Candy Feature — triggered by any 2×2 cluster of identical symbols. Wins involving the Big Candy are doubled.

4. Free Spins Feature — triggered by 3 Free Spins symbols, awarding:

This is where most of the slot’s real potential lies — long cascade chains with accumulating multipliers and persistent Wilds can snowball into powerful payouts.

I started the game with a balance of 100,000 free credits and a bet of $4. On literally the first spin, I hit a Big Win and immediately came out ahead, which, unfortunately, melted away very quickly. After several successful spins that brought tangible winnings, there was a long line of wins of $1-2, which didn't even cover my expenses. I didn't even get a bonus round. In short, I ended up with a loss of about $100, which isn't that critical, but it's still unpleasant. If you play at a lower stake, which will extend the gaming session for longer with the same budget, the chance of triggering a bonus round is much higher. 

Now for the cons that I promised to discuss. The low chance of triggering the bonus round is a con. Yes, the game is very dynamic even without it, for a 2021 release. But still, everyone wants to play the bonus round. I have never had even two Scatters on the field. This is unfortunate and spoils the impression of the game. But this is perhaps the only downside I could notice. Otherwise, the game is quite strong, except for the small maximum win.
