Casino employees in Detroit, Michigan, who have been on strike for nearly a month, are now advocating for a boycott against online betting platforms. They want gamblers to stay away from iGaming sites to support their strike, asking them to avoid FanDuel, ESPN BET, Hollywood iCasino and BetMGM.

The Detroit Casino Council (DCC), representing workers from MGM Grand Detroit, Hollywood at Greektown and MotorCity casinos, has announced a digital ad campaign starting on November 13. The campaign aims to discourage users from using the mentioned apps until the strike concludes.

Notably, the boycott excludes Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online Casino, WynnBET, DraftKings, Sports Illustrated Sportsbook and others.

Nia Winston, president of UNITE HERE Local 24, emphasized that online sports betting and online casino platforms such as FanDuel, ESPN BET and BetMGM play a crucial role as revenue sources for the companies operating Detroit’s three casinos.

She added that workers are urging the public not to use these apps until a fair contract is achieved, aligning with their ongoing physical strike outside the casinos since October 17.

Negotiations between the DCC and the casinos commenced in early September, focusing on objectives such as wage increases, fortifying retirement benefits and ensuring protection for workers affected by the introduction of new technology.

The DCC comprises UNITE HERE Local 24, United Auto Workers, Teamster Local 1038, Operating Engineers Local 32 and the Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters.

Members of the Detroit Casino Council also assembled on Saturday for a rally outside MGM Grand in Detroit as the ongoing strike approaches its one-month mark next week.

Tyjuanese Taylor, who has been with MotorCity Casino for 24 years and will celebrate her 24th anniversary on November 15, expressed the primary purpose of their gathering.

Members, including Taylor, emphasized their presence to support one another until a contract is secured. Taylor expressed hope for a favorable contract as an excellent anniversary gift.

Despite facing colder temperatures and nearly a month of picketing, Taylor and her colleagues conveyed a sense of optimism. She acknowledged the challenging days and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support.
