    In September, Pennsylvania saw an overall gambling revenue of $476,278,004, marking a 6.2% YoY increase. The state achieved a record-breaking $159.5 million from igaming, reflecting a substantial 41.5% YoY growth, surpassing the prior record set in March 2023 at $148.2 million.

    Leading the way in gaming revenue was Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville, with $77.0 million, a 16.7% boost from September 2022.

    Valley Forge Casino Resort followed with $66.1 million, showing a 24.5% YoY increase. Park Casino in Philadelphia generated $55.8 million, slightly up by 0.29% from the previous year.

    Slot revenue for September reached $199.9 million, a modest increase of 0.7% compared to September 2022.

    Parx Casino topped all state casinos with $31.5 million in slot revenue, although it marked a YoY decrease of -2.21%.

    Wind Creek Bethlehem generated $23.7 million in slot revenue, an 8.2% increase YoY, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh posted $21.2 million in revenue, marking a decrease of -5.1%.

    Hollywood Casino at Penn National was responsible for over a third of Pennsylvania’s record-breaking igaming revenue, totaling $64.8 million.

    Valley Forge Casino Resort recorded $35.4 million in igaming revenue, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia generated $29.2 million in revenue from online gaming.

    In terms of sports betting revenue, September yielded $36.6 million from a handle of $726.3 million, a -7.2% YoY decline.

    Valley Forge Casino Resort posted sports betting revenue of $19.1 million from a handle of $256.4 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands reported revenue of $8.6 million with a total handle of $230.5 million.

    Parx Casino’s handle of $22.6 million resulted in $2.1 million in revenue, slightly outpacing Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s revenue of $2.0 million from a handle of $31.5 million.

    The initial discussions among lawmakers concerning online gambling began in 2013. Over the subsequent years, there were several occasions when legislators came incredibly close to passing a bill, only for the process to be derailed at the last moment.

    Today, sports betting in the state is legally available both through online platforms and in physical locations. Retail sports betting made its debut in November 2018, with online and mobile options introduced in May 2019.

    The comprehensive gambling expansion bill, including provisions for sports betting, was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf in 2017.
