The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has imposed a significant fine on Kanon Gaming Limited for violations of the country’s Gaming Act. The regulatory action included both a warning and a financial penalty intended to ensure the operator takes greater responsibility in the future.

Kanon Gaming Limited holds a license for commercial online gaming and operates several websites:

  • casinoepic.se

  • casinogami.se

  • frejacasino.se

  • lokecasino.se

Audit Findings

An audit conducted by the Swedish Gambling Authority revealed several deficiencies in Kanon Gaming’s operations. Specifically, the company was found to lack:

  • Proper procedures to protect customers from gambling-related harm.

  • A clear duty of care framework in its action plan submitted after the audit.

  • Effective safeguards for at-risk and younger players aged 18–24.

The audit required Kanon Gaming to provide customer data focusing on individuals with significant losses and younger players. The findings showed that proactive measures were missing and that automated messages sent to customers failed to prevent problem gambling behavior.

Regulatory Actions

Due to these failures, Kanon Gaming Limited was found to have breached the Gaming Act. As a result, the company received:

  • A formal warning.

  • A fine of SEK 7 million (approximately €622,772 or $668,495).

In a similar case, the Swedish Gaming Authority audited Folkspel, finding inadequate safeguards to prevent minors from gambling. Folkspel was also issued a formal warning and fined SEK 500,000 (around $47,283).

Regulatory Emphasis

The Swedish Gambling Authority reaffirmed its commitment to:

  • Enforcing compliance with the Gaming Act.

  • Protecting consumers, especially vulnerable groups such as minors and young adults.

  • Ensuring all licensed operators maintain high standards of player protection and responsible gaming practices.

These actions demonstrate Sweden’s continued focus on upholding integrity and consumer safety within its regulated gambling market.
